1st Cold Ash Beaver Colony

1st Cold Ash Beaver Scout Colony is for young people aged between 6 and 8 years old when joining the section.  On joining they belong to the youngest section of the scouting family. Young people can join the Beaver Scouts in the 3 months leading up to their 6th birthday.  They can move to the Cub section between 8 and 8.5 years of age.

Beaver Scouts are easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts.  Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits, and helping others.  They will also have an opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them.  Beavers have a Promise and Motto, but there is not a Beaver Scout Law. The concepts of the Scout Law should be presented to Beavers through games, storytelling, and other informal devices.

We are part of 1st Cold Ash Scout Group and enjoy many activities including handicrafts, games, singing, trips and visits and joint activities with other Beaver Colonies within our district and other sections of our group. For example, we quite often visit Cub and Scout Camps for the day and join in their activities, which can include archery and climbing.

When a new member has been with us for about 4 weeks, they will then be invested into the colony.  There is a very short ceremony where the new Beaver Scout will have learnt the Beaver Scout Promise, but this in not essential as they can say it along with the leader.  After have completed the Promise they will be presented with badges and a coloured woggle, as well a certificate welcoming them to Scouting.

We hope to see you soon
