About Cold Ash

1st Cold Ash Scout Group has been delivering awesome adventure, fun learning and skills for life to the young people of Cold Ash for over 50 years.  The Group’s 3 sections meet at St Finian’s Primary School on the Ridgeway at Cold Ash.

One of the largest groups in our district we offer scouting to young people from the age six to fourteen.

The Group today consists of:

  • One Beaver Scout Colony that can accommodate up to 30 Beaver Scouts
  • One Cub Scout Pack that can accommodate up to 30 Cub Scouts
  • Two Scout Troops that can accommodate up to 44 Scouts.

We are a popular Scout Group and one which is continuously growing.  Each week during school term the sections meet to undertake different adventurous activities as part of a balanced program.  Each section is led by dedicated DBS checked, volunteer leaders, many of whom have worked with the sections for 10 plus years.

Did you know 11 of the 12 people to walk on the moon were once Scouts? Scouts are do-ers always giving it a go.  At Cold Ash yes, we go camping, hiking, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. Being a scout is also about hanging out with your friends every week and having fun, playing games, being part of a team and taking on new challenges.  Parents are encouraged to get involved, helping at a couple of evenings a year, assisting to organise social activities, or being an active member of our organising committee.

Our aim in scouting is to help our young people to develop skills and a strong sense of confidence.   Scouting makes a positive contribution to society by helping young people to develop as active members of the community.  Scouts become self-reliant, responsible, and caring individuals who show commitment to themselves and to others.

Scouting provides a second family to lots of our young people, it’s a safe place where they can aspire and grow.   Baden-Powell said, “The more responsibility Scout Leaders give their scouts, the more they will respond”.  This quote is at the heart of everything we do.

We hope to see you soon.
